First things first, what is marketing?
Marketing refers to any type of promotion, advertising or campaign that has been in use by companies & brands for years. Using marketing companies & brands push themselves to achieve better sales for their products and services.
There are two types of marketing which are currently in use:
- Traditional Marketing
- Digital Marketing
1. Traditional marketing
Traditional Marketing is a method which is used by brands & companies for log time & has proven success rate. But this method is pretty outdated now.
Companies spend lakhs of rupees on this type of marketing. This is done by print advertisements, billboards, flyers or pamphlet, TV, newspaper, radio, etc.
But doing this kind of marketing is like playing casino games. They don’t know if they win or not.
Billboard can be seen by a lot of people but they don’t know how many relevant people saw it. Pamphlet most of the times ignored & thrown in the dustbin. People switch the channel when an advertisement appears. Radio is going to die soon because of the podcast. The newspaper already replaced by news blogs.
This all happened because this type of marketing has no control over the target audience. They can’t improve their results by studying the previous result because they don’t have reports or any data about previous marketing. For example, they don’t know how many people spend how much time on watching billboards. Means there is no improvement in future i.e. even after spending a lot of money and time result are irrelevant. Also, they can’t re-target their audience who showing interest in our marketing.
2. Digital Marketing
Digital Marketing is a method which is developed in recent years. This marketing uses mainly internet for marketing of products and services. Other things like mobile phone, display advertising and any other digital medium are also used in this type of marketing. Social media marketing, websites, SEO, infographics, content marketing, blogs & email Marketing are part of digital marketing
The main method of digital marketing is social media advertisements. One survey shows that there are 4.39 billion internet users in the entire world in 2019 & 3.48 billion people use social media daily. That’s why social media marketing is the best way of improving sales and business. This type of marketing provides total control over our target audience i.e. age, gender, area & people’s interest. That’s why this type of marketing also known to be behavioural marketing. Also, it gets insight reports of previous experience. Therefore an improvement in marketing can be done as well as re-targeting audience is possible. Marketing can be started or stop anytime as per requirement.
This method is cost-effective & many times results are very amazing by spending very less cost.
In the current era, if businesses want best results by spending less amount of money on marketing then choosing digital marketing over traditional marketing is the best option.
